Overview
With an eco-tourism approach, DESERT PASSIONS takes trekkers to the heart of the Moroccan desert to discover nomadic culture and the magnificent desert landscapes of the Sahara. All our trips to the MOROCCAN desert start from M'hamid El ghizlane, the last village before the great Sahara.
Accompanied by the camel caravan and the camel drivers, our treks take place along the high dunes of the Drâa Valley, the hamadas, the oases and the palm groves, at the rhythm of desert life and at the pace of our camels.
- THE TREKKERS' FAVOURITE
- THE DESERT CARAVAN 8 DAYS 7 NIGHTS
Day 1
We set off from M'hamid, at the gateway to the desert, early in the morning with our camel drivers and their dromedaries to cross the desert landscape. After a few hours' walk, we have a picnic in the shade... After a short rest, we continue our walk to the Marabout's tomb at Sidi Naji, then set up camp for an evening and a night under the stars or in a tent. (Your choice, depending on the weather and the season).
Day 2
In the morning, after breakfast, we set off to cross a Hamada of acacia trees, before arriving at Erg Ez-Zahar, where the large dunes have retained their wild and solitary character and dominate the most beautiful desert in Morocco ... the special feature of this corner of the desert is that it is inaccessible to 4×4 vehicles ... It's at the foot of these dunes, also known as the "howling dunes", that we'll set up our bivouac and climb up to watch the sun set...
Day 3
Departure from Erg Ez-Zahar, after breakfast we cross the different landscapes and aspects of the desert, stopping for lunch. We'll continue walking to set up camp for the night at Erg Sadra ....
Day 4
The following day, in the morning, we continue our walk towards the great dunes of Chigaga, the largest dunes in Morocco, crossing wide open spaces to discover the nomadic way of life. The bivouac is set in a dream landscape in the middle of the dunes, from the top of which you can admire the magnificent sunsets and sunrises and the sea of sand as far as the eye can see.
Day 5
After breakfast, departure to spend the day with the family in the tent and have lunch with them. At the end of the day, return to our bivouac at the CHEGAGA sand sea.
Day 6
The next day, after a short half-day walk to the Erg, we arrive in Bougarn to rest and spend the night. It's a day that's a little lighter in terms of walking hours, so we can take a short break in the middle of these 7 days ....
Day 7
For the penultimate day, the caravan travels at its own pace, skirting the desert plains, stopping for lunch and a siesta, before arriving at Wadi Naam in the late afternoon. It is here that we will set up camp for the last time under the stars...
Day 8
On the last day, we walk a little further and leave the Naam wadi for Mhamid. We enjoy the immensity and the silence a little longer, and the sound of our footsteps on the sand makes our ears sing - what music!
Goodbye to the desert!
