A 9-hour drive from Marrakech, Merzouga, is one of the most emblematic places in the desert. It is home to theerg Chebbione of the most beautiful facets of the Moroccan desert. This erg is captivating because of its immense dunes, up to 150m high. The dunes are ideal for dromedary excursions, treks in the Moroccan desert or bivouacs to spend magical nights under a starry sky.
For an even more authentic Moroccan holiday, the Erg Chegaga fascinates adventure-seeking travellers. Located around 500km south-east of Marrakech, this sea of sand is home to dunes that can reach heights of almost 300m.
How do I get there?
If your stay begins in Marrakech or Ouarzazate, simply take National Route 9 to the village of Mhamid, at the gateway to the Moroccan desert. Once in the village, you can continue by 4×4 or on foot, as you wish. A local guide is needed to explore the Erg Chegaga.
