Departure from Ouarzazate
Ouarzazate is a town south of the Moroccan High Atlas Mountains, known as the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Its enormous Kasbah of Taourirt, housing a 19th-century palace, offers a view of the surrounding rocky landscape, which appears in several films. To the north-west lies the red earth fortified town of Aït-ben-Haddou, while the rocky Toudra Gorge stretches to the north-east.
